Turkish modular construction firm to launch US operations hub in 2026
“Because of the trade war with China, confidence in Türkiye has increased in the US market, and this has had a positive impact on demand,” Karmod General Manager Ensar Cankaya stated. “We have a major investment project planned for the US in 2026.”
Currently active in 135 countries, Karmod accelerated its operations in the second quarter of 2025 as global demand strengthened, with plans to further expand export capacity in the coming year. The company has already boosted shipments to Europe, North Africa, and Central Asia and now aims to shift more of its exports toward the US, as well as Kazakhstan and Russia.
Cankaya noted that Central Africa saw the company’s fastest growth this year, driven by rising needs for housing and educational facilities. Large-scale housing demands are increasingly being met by high-capacity producers as the market for rapid, disaster-ready construction grows.
“In Africa, housing and school demand has surged. In the US, disaster housing sensitivity has increased. Our products can be delivered quickly after earthquakes, hurricanes or tsunamis, which is driving demand,” he said.
Karmod’s portfolio includes prefabricated, steel, and container structures, along with cabins, plastic and composite products, water tanks, and security units. The company is heavily involved in construction projects for the mining, education, and healthcare sectors, including schools, offices, and worksite buildings.
Demand for prefabricated steel housing surged in 2025 as clients sought faster, eco-friendly, and carbon-efficient construction solutions. “European buyers in particular are placing greater emphasis on certified quality standards and advanced production technologies,” Cankaya added.
Next year, Karmod plans to launch a “third-generation container series,” designed to be modular and relocatable without traditional assembly. “These containers will function like movable Lego blocks. They can be lifted and relocated without assembly. We have already adjusted our production system accordingly,” he said.
Additional new products are also planned in steel housing, emphasizing modern design, enhanced insulation, and higher aesthetic standards, with engineering and technical teams having completed development work.
To meet growing demand, Karmod has finished constructing a new manufacturing facility in the Orhanli industrial zone of Tuzla, near Istanbul, with relocation expected by year-end. The facility will particularly increase capacity for composite and plastic products.
Cankaya noted that domestic investment remains a priority to strengthen production lines and create jobs. The company is also enhancing digitalization and automation, implementing an AI-supported measurement and analytics system integrated with its enterprise resource planning platform to detect production bottlenecks and boost efficiency.
