EU funding for Grad Castle renovation: €1.8 million for Natura 2000 interpretation

SLOVENIA, December 15 - The beneficiary of the financial contribution for the project is the Goričko Nature Park Public Institution, Grad 191. The project is implemented under priority 3 Green transformation for climate neutrality. Its objective is Enhancing protection and conservation of nature, biodiversity and green infrastructure.

The project combines the preservation of cultural heritage with the interpretation of nature and increases accessibility to the public. As part of the project, a segment of the Grad Castle, which is identified as cultural heritage, will be renovated to provide publicly accessible spaces for the interpretation of biodiversity conservation. This will create a synergistic effect for the areas of nature conservation, cultural heritage preservation, and public access. No new construction will be carried out, but priority will be given to renovating the existing castle building.

The total eligible costs for the implementation of the project amount to €2,127,425.90. The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) support stands at €1,808,312. The project is implemented in the programme area of the Vzhodna Slovenija cohesion region.
